Mount Carbon, WV (March 14, 2025) – On Wednesday, March 12, there were fatal injuries after an auto accident in the Mount Carbon area. The deadly crash took place on WV-61 in Fayette County early that morning at around 7:30 a.m. Two vehicles reportedly collided at the scene.
Local reports revealed that the two cars were traveling in opposite directions when one of the drivers veered into oncoming traffic and collided head-on with the oncoming vehicle. Emergency crews were quickly dispatched to provide the necessary medical aid. Both drivers were hurt as a result of the collision. One of the drivers was transported to Montgomery General Hospital for the treatment of sustained injuries. The driver of the other car, 55-year-old Andrew Appel III of Beckley, was rushed to Charleston Area Medical Center in critical condition. Appel was later pronounced dead by attending medical personnel. No further information on the deadly crash is currently available. An ongoing investigation into the cause of the incident is in progress.
